How to Choose Wedding Colors for Every Season

October 16, 2018 by Carter Leave a Comment

Your wedding colors will be one of the first things people will ask you about after you start planning your wedding. Your wedding colors will set the vibe for your wedding and will help guests avoid the faux pas of accidentally matching the décor.

The season you marry will help dictate your colors and help you set the tone and ambiance of your big day. Whether it’s peachy pinks for summer or deep blues for winter, we know the decision for what colors you choose for your wedding day can be overwhelming. To help you decide, here are some of our top choices for colors for your wedding depending on the season.

1. Spring weddings

Spring is a time of growth and rebirth after the long, dreary days at the end of winter. Channel some of that by choosing bright, sunshiny colors like butter yellow, dove gray, and cream, or a lively palette of navy, yellow and ivory. These soft colors also work great on the younger faction of your wedding party. Ivory flower girl dresses look demure and age-appropriate and also complement your wedding dress well. You should also take into account your wedding vibe. Spring weddings are a great time to start incorporating the outdoors into your big day, and you can do that in your colors as well by maybe introducing some chartreuse or other pale greens.

2. Summer weddings

The long, hot, lazy days of summer are the most popular time of year to marry. The weather is perfect for outdoor ceremonies and receptions, all the flowers are in bloom, and the settings for pictures are excellent. Summer is also a great time to add in brighter and more vibrant colors to your wedding. Corals and pinks look gorgeous on tanned skin in the summer, and they pair beautifully with whites! If you’d like something more demure for your bridesmaid dresses, soft peaches and pale yellows are subtler and feminine, which can also work well for your flower girl dresses.

3. Fall weddings

As summer gives way to fall, the vibrancy of the season will serve as the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos. The changing leaves and crisp, bright days will mean that you and your guests will be more comfortable. Fall is also a great time to introduce some richer, deeper colors to your wedding. Burgundy, wines, mustards, or navy, are gorgeous colors that complement the season beautifully. If you’d prefer lighter colors, lavender and lilacs pair gorgeously with pale grays and ivories. If you want to see what some colors look like paired together, try a site like JJ’s House where you can see a variety of shades and how they will complement each other.

4. Winter weddings

The drama of a winter wedding means you can incorporate some equally dramatic colors. Wine red, gold, and silver all look gorgeous when contrasted with the winter backdrop. If your marriage is near the holidays, you can even incorporate some sequins in these colors.
