5 Natural Methods of Pest Control That Every Homeowner Should Know

Pests exist everywhere. In most cases, they stay out of sight and you can continue, pretending you don’t know they are there. But, if they are there then there’s a good chance they are causing damage to your home. Even one sighting of a pest should be enough to click here and take steps to protect your home from various pests.

While you can find out more about the various options offered by professional firms, you should also take a look at the natural options. These are a great starting point. You simply need to know the natural methods of pest control and when to acknowledge there not working.

  • Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth is a natural substance. It’s actually fossilized remains from a long time ago. The substance is abrasive, even when in a fine powder. This damages the outer shell of pests, causing them to dehydrate and die. The process is surprisingly quick.

  • Boric Acid

Boric acid works in the same way as diatomaceous earth. It attacks the outer shell of an insect and creates a dehydration issue. The pest is unable to heal and therefore dies, dehydrated. This is a good option as it poses no danger to children or pets.

  • Bait Traps

The traditional bait trap is exceptionally popular and effectively at eliminating a whole range of pests. There are two types. The traditional bait trap attracts the pest into the trap and then refuses to let the pest out, effectively killing them.

In contrast, you can get bait traps that you put food in to attract pests. These are for the pests that work as a team and will take the bait back to the colony. You place good bait to encourage the pests to feel confident that it’s a safe source of food. You then switch the bait and they take it back to the colony, potentially killing everyone in one go.

  • Tobacco Spray

Tobacco spray is made from organic tobacco and water. Leave the tobacco in the water overnight for it to absorb the badness of the tobacco. You can then spray this onto any plant or piece of furniture that you wish to protect. Any pest coming into contact with the mix will die.

  • Professional Assistance

If the above methods aren’t working then you need to call the professionals in. If you explain your situation and explain why you need to eliminate a specific pest the professionals will take over and do it for you. If you ask they will even opt for a natural option, ensuring you’re not harming the environment when eliminating the pests.

You should note that prevention is usually better than cure. Instead of waiting for a problem to arise it’s a good idea to take steps to avoid pest issues. The most obvious is sealing holes and gaps in your walls and planting herbs such as peppermint or cinnamon. These are great deterrents for most pests and completely natural.
