Once upon a time, you had to wait an age for a parcel delivery. At the same time, food delivery was out of the question.
In short, this is an industry which has turned on its head. While there are of course a whole host of reasons why this has occurred, one of the main ones undoubtedly surrounds GPS for car devices.
As we all know, these have been completely commonplace on the roads now, but from a commercial perspective they have changed the way most of us replace normal activities.
Through the rest of today’s post, we will now take a look at some of the ways they have fueled the delivery industry and ultimately made our lives all the more easier.
Parcel delivery is more efficient than ever before
This is the point that most of us will resonate with the most. If one was to wind back the clock a couple of decades, waiting for a delivery was something of a nightmare. Of course, we had a postal service, but this was inconsistent to say the least and it meant that we quite often had to wait weeks before something arrived on the doorstep. Unless, of course, high premiums were paid.
Now, it’s not just one postal service ruling all. There are umpteen services entering the fray, and this means that cheap and fast delivery is more common. A lot more power is in the customer’s hands
As well as drivers being dictated by GPS device, the customer also has a lot more power because of these.
Again, if we were to turn back the clock, the amount of missed deliveries hounding the country was beyond staggering. Customers didn’t know what parcel was coming at what time and naturally, this presented a whole host of problems.
Now that drivers are armed with their GPS devices, everything is much more trackable. Apps can find out where a driver is and at least provide a rough indication on the time they are going to arrive. In some cases, this approximation is down to the minute – and it’s pretty accurate as well.
Food delivery: entering a new era
Finally, let’s give a point on food delivery. This was run by the takeaway restaurants themselves at one point, but now third parties have entered the scene who can run a whole system with national restaurant chains. Again, GPS is the reason this has been able to happen; these third parties have a team of drivers and by knowing their exact location, it becomes easy to find out exactly who is in the best position to take a delivery from a particular restaurant.
