Top Solutions for Lighting Your Fire

March 17, 2022 by Carter Leave a Comment

Few things are as frustrating as spending ages lighting a fire, only to see it disappointingly fizzle out minutes after igniting it. But don’t worry, we’ve all been there. No matter if you’re using a fire pit or fireplace, igniting a fire will always be tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing. As such, the following top solutions will help you light a fire that you can be proud of without the associated hassle.

Ensure the fire has oxygen

For a fire to survive and thrive, it required a healthy supply of oxygen. On both inside and outside fires, it’s helpful to blow on your kindling to get things up and running. For all indoor fires, it’s important to keep windows and vents open in the room, as this helps with air circulation. As well as helping you to light the fire in the first place, it will also keep your fire roaring for a much longer period.

Stack your fire correctly

Incorrectly stacking your fire is going to cause you a lot of problems when it comes to igniting it. The first thing you need to do is to scrunch some newspapers up alongside the kindling. When you lay the kindling on top, do so in a criss-cross pattern, as this will help with the supply of oxygen to the flames when it is lit. Finally, don’t get too carried away when you add logs onto the kindling. Adding a maximum of 2-3 logs should more than suffice to get things started, and you can always add as the flames start to roar. Although it may seem like a strange thing to advise, adding too many logs to your fire will cause you problems when you come to light it.

Choose the right fuel

Last but not least, selecting the right fuel for your fire is of the utmost importance. If you’re burning the wrong type of wood, you have very little chance of starting a fire to be proud of. We would recommend starting with kiln-dried kindling from Homefire’s range, as it will get your fire started with minimal fuss. You can then pair it with some kiln-dried firewood, which is smokeless, sustainable, and incredibly easy to light. If you’ve ever experienced the disappointment of watching a newly lit fire fizzle out in front of you, choosing the right fuel will prevent this from happening!

Next time you light a fire at home, be sure to follow these top tips! No longer will you have to watch YouTube videos or ask your neighbour for a helping hand, you now have all the information you need to light your fire like a pro!
