NeighborGoods should consider powering a share function on BuildingLink.com or somehow partnering with them (and other similar sites or universities, think dorms). I hate the look and feel of BuildingLink (probably designed in the '80s by people who have 0 feel for aesthetics), but that's the website that many residents of large residential buildings in NYC uses. It's sort of like Craigslist for just people in your building; it's also a communication tool between residents and management so you can just go online to file a maintenance request; it also emails you when you get a package. Anyway, the growth potential for NeighborGoods is huge in densely populated areas like Manhattan - there are 700+ apartment units just in my building alone.

I heard about this on the NPR piece this morning... I have been participating in Freecycle for a few years now and I think your NeighborGoods idea is great. My suggestion would be that we be allowed to enter in a radius... my comfort zone is about 10 miles, which incorporates 8 different towns. Other people's zone might be less or more... is this a possibility?

i'm new to this site and am trying to do my first transaction. i sent a request to borrow something a week ago but haven't heard anything back. how do they know i sent them a request? are they going to get an email notification, or do they have to keep checking the site? what can i do if they never get back to me?
i just enjoy this site to let people borrow safe save monkey

I think that the site is great. Many of us are having hard times right now. Maybe this can help people get a shoulder to lean on....

Nice useful site. I wanted to started to start something similar and glad to see you guys did. Happy to help out. I see there is no category for services or help neighbor with your skills. I am computer guy and sometimes my neighbors struggle with computer stuff. I am happy to help out on weekends and similarly may neighbors are happy to lend hand on what they know for free or money. THat helps. Like plumber next door can help with faucet fixing instead of you struggling with it. So think about that.

I love the idea of sharing with neighbors, but your options & rating system is what puts the shine on this idea & website! Being able to charge a temporary deposit, a nominal usage fee, or rate someone as a dirt bag for not returning your stuff or handling your belongings properly is priceless!

I have a question. How do I know if something is listed to borrow or buy? Do I have to ask the person listing or is it on the page somewhere and I just missed it. I saw one thing that said "to borrow" but nothing else.
