Description:
3-DVD set of Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy:
- Blue (Bleu)
- White (Blanc)
- Red (Rouge)
These were the final, complete (and many say the best) films of renowned Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski.
A classic trilogy to watch, with the title and theme of the film pertaining to a color of the French flag and the country's national motto: "Liberty, equality, fraternity."
blink's Personal Story: My own history with these films go way back. My sister, a film geek herself, introduced me to Kieslowski when I was in junior high, and as I left home for boarding school, I would borrow her VHS copies of the Three Colors trilogy.
The trilogy has certainly made an impression on me. I greatly appreciate the themes and storytelling of these films, which I also feel has been continued on with filmmakers such as Shunji Iwai and Wong Kar-Wai. Most people tend to have a favorite out of the three but watching them as a whole, in my opinion, enhances and enriches the overall experience.
Also, these were some of the first films to introduce me to the three lead actresses: Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy and Irène Jacob, all who have become favorites. Even now- and this has happen quite often- when I'm illustrating or designing female characters, I draw inspiration from these actresses, from these films.
Just talking about Three Colors has gotten me inspired to watch it again. I'm eagerly waiting for a Blu-ray release ;)
